If relationships have taught me anything, I must never look for me in my partner, my best friend. Finding safety in a pigeonhole might suggest comfort but it also implies the loss of hope and trust, the inability to grow and heal, shrinking love and increasing isolation.

Our differences do make us stronger and often unites us in ways unimaginable. Change is inevitable. We must direct the energy of change constructively for positive growth as individuals and partners. A partnership demands faith in each other, strengthened by the understanding and respect of the oneness and separateness of each person within the relationship. For me, having faith in my partner's goodness while acknowledging her inner beauty is far more important than money and possessions. If we are truly mindful of ourselves and of us, love can be at the service of meaningful action in a lifelong commitment.

This is not easy; it takes the incredible daily work of awareness. This work will force us to confront our fears and deal with the dark and the troubled side of life. The basest of all things is to be afraid and yet we must forget that lesson concerning the verities and truths of the heart, love and honor, pity and pride, compassion and sacrifice.

I do hope to meet someone who can forgive the past, share the good times (plays, opera, movies, dinner, art, quite walks,), and look with hope towards the future. I do promise to listen closely to your words and the messages beneath; therefore, I must be present whenever or wherever we should meet. Most important, however, I will always treat you with great respect, kindness and understanding.

The adventure of lifetime awaits us, if we can open our hearts and broaden our horizons and keep on the sunny side of life. Let’s seize each day and begin it with a song of hope.
